Description
Antique Calabash or gourd embellished with various textiles and strands of old coins, along with some leather wrapping. Such objects were used as a form of currency and prestige. The attached coins are either half-penny or tenth-penny coins from British West Africa and date from the 30's & 40's up to1950. The Calabash measures 7.5 inches tall x 6 inches wide. Provenance: Ex Dr Noble & Jean Endicott, New York, also a private New Jersey collection since 1999.
