Oil on masonite panel. Indistinctly signed "Sujarit" in red, lower right. Inscribed in pencil on the reverse "Sujarit Hirankul" (see photos). Unframed.
An intricate, dimensional scene depicting numerous figures in small boats on a Thai river market. Painted using palette knife with thick pigments over a textured ground.
SIZE - 7 1/8" x 9 1/8" (18 cm x 23 cm)
PROVENANCE: San Francisco estate.
NOTES / REFERENCES: Sujarit Hirankul was a recognized Thai painter for his impressionist paintings. His paintings have been auctioned at Christie’s Thailand, and also a number of auction houses in the United States. Hirankul’s signature is painting with a palette knife and very, very thick application of paint, making his artworks heavily textured and three-dimensional, and instantly recognizable.
