Description
Oil on canvas, laid onto wood panels. Unframed.
Each depicts a cherub angel in flight over an urn of flowers, with clouds in the sky and various other elements. Each composition contained within a gilt circle with patterns at the outer edges.
There are penciled title inscriptions on the reverse, respectively: "Morning", "Noon", "Evening" and "Night".
SIZE (of each) - 6" x 7" (15.2 cm x 17.8 cm)
PROVENANCE: Monterey, California collection.
NOTES / REFERENCES: Francois Boucher (1703 - 1770) was a French painter, draughtsman and etcher, who worked in the Rococo style. Boucher is known for his idyllic and voluptuous paintings on classical themes, decorative allegories, and pastoral scenes. He was perhaps the most celebrated painter and decorative artist of the 18th century.
