Description
FABERGE - EXTREMELY RARE GOLD RUSSIAN PORTRAIT of NICHOLAS 2nd
A Russian gold Portrait made by Vasiliy Zuyev in a Sapphire and Diamond frame with signed and dated 1907 on the front of the Portrait. Vasiliy Zuyev was one of the two licensed artist who made portrait of Nicholas 2nd in Faberge workshop !! Nice Faberge item. When you touch and hold a piece of FABERGE sterling you are in contact with something very special coming down to you not only from the era of the czars but of an ancestry far more ancient: for it is typical of all the imperial courts there have ever been.
DIMENSIONS: 7 x 4.5 cm (2.8 x 1.8 inches).
KNOWN HISTORY: Initially, on the reverse side, this portrait used to have a pin and the maker's marks: 'I.P.' (for Julius Alexandrovitch Rappoport - famous FABERGE workmaster), as well as "purity” mark '56' (for gold content). It was published in 2015 on Live Auctioneers and on Internet Auction in UK (lot 48, 2015) - please see two screenshots. For some reason, maker's marks and the attachment on the reverse were removed. Most likely, the previous owner of this item planned to insert it into a gold box - please see next screenshot.
VERY INTERESTING FACT: Russian Imperial presentation snuffbox in 1911 was decorated with a portrait of Nicholas II made by artist Vasiliy Zuev - see the image. In 1913 on behalf of the Emperor it was presented as a gift to Turhan Pasha, Turkish Ambassador in St. Petersburg. This snuff box was purchased from Faberge in 1909 for 2500 rubles (for comparison: the price of a 7-rooms apartment on the prestigious Big Sea Street in St. Petersburg at that time had a price about 2000 rubles - now the price for the apartment in that area is $2.000.000 - $3.000.000 !!). This box was sold on Christie's in London in November 2010 for $1.463.985 !!!!. Please compare our item and the item on that box - and our price with the price of that box.
WARRANTY: The gold and diamonds are checked - all natural. This item is an original for 100%.
ESTIMATE PRICE: $5,000 - $20,000.
HISTORY of SALES: A few years ago portrait of Nicholas !! made in Faberge shop were sold on Live Auctioneer, eBay and Christie's for $15,000 (only frame), $40,000, $502,800 (box with portrait) and $834,500 (box with portrait) - please see the screenshots.

WIKIPEDIA: Peter Carl Faberge, also known as Karl Gustavovich Faberge was a Russian jeweller best known for the famous Faberge eggs made in the style of genuine Easter eggs, but using precious metals and gemstones rather than more mundane materials. He's the founder of the famous jewelry legacy House of Faberge. The House of Faberge is a jewellery firm founded in 1842 in St. Petersburg, Imperial Russia, by Gustav Faberge, using the accented name Faberge. Gustav's sons Peter Carl Faberge and Agathon Faberge Sr. and grandsons followed him in running the business until it was nationalised by the Bolsheviks in 1918. The firm was famous for designing elaborate jewel-encrusted Faberge eggs for the Russian Tsars and a range of other work of high quality and intricate detail. In 1924, Peter Carl's sons Alexander Faberge and Eugene Faberge opened Faberge & Cie in Paris, making similar jewellery items and adding the name of the city to their rival firm's trademark, styling it FABERGE, PARIS. In 1937, the rights to the Faberge brand name were sold to Samuel Rubin for the marketing of perfume. It was then re-sold in 1964 to cosmetics company Rayette Inc., which changed its name to Rayette-Faberge Inc.

WORKMASTER: Julius Alexandrovitch Rappoport, Russian silversmith, Faberge workmaster. Born in 1864. Trained in Berlin, one of Faberge's rare craftsmen of Jewish origin. Julius Rappoport opened his first own workshop in St. Petersburg at Ekateriniski Canal in 1883, then he moved to Moscow to become a Faberge workmaster. His maker's mark was IP and in Russian Cyrillic. He belonged from 1886 till 1908 to four 'workmasters', main leaders of Faberge workshops. He was the Faberge's most important supplier of large silver objects. He is best known for his naturalistic animal figures (massive silver casts), but he also executed special commissions for the Imperial Family, the Imperial Cabinet and noble families Yousupov an others. Recently a few of these special commissions that were designed by Faberge, and made by Rappoport, have been auctioned by Bonhams and Christies in London (England) and in Munich. His workshop was taken over by the First Silver Artel around 1909. Died in 1916.
