Civil War Americana. Anti-Copperhead Broadside: "The Great Union Speech of Hon. Alexander H. Stephens, Vice President of the Southern Confederacy." Single sheet, circa 1863, printed by P.W. Derham of New York. Includes text of an 1861 anti-secession speech delivered at the Confederate States secession convention by Alexander Stephens (1812-1883), Vice President of the Confederate States (1861-1865), and Governor of Georgia (1882-1883). Printed as a Pro-Union tract against the Copperheads, a Union faction that opposed the American Civil War. In a protective plastic sleeve, and presented in the original circa 1964 Sotheby's Parke-Bernet auction gallery folder, with original auction lot information. Two small pieces of velcro attached previously to top verso. Good antique condition, with crease fold to center. Measures approximately 18 1/2 in. x 12 in.
