Description
Figur, "khosi"
Yaka, DR Kongo
Mit Sockel / with base
Holz. H 33 cm.
Provenienz:
- Dr. R. Sulsenti, Rom. 1931 in situ erworben.
- Nachlass Alberto Galaverni (1933-2013), Parma.
The stylistic solutions of the Yaka are quite particular and specific to this group. This is the case of the peculiar shape of the nose which is an unmistakable characteristic of this figure, small in dimension but important for quality. To our eyes its plastic solutions, somehow cubistic, seem particularly appealing. This piece was collected by Dr. R. Sulsenti in 1931, when he was practicing as a doctor in the Belgian Congo."
Bourgeois, Arthur P. (1984). Art of the Yaka and Suku. Meudon: Alain et Françoise Chaffin.
