Description
c. 1850. Classic Gold Rush lithograph! "The Independent Gold Hunter on His Way to California. I Neither Borrow nor Lend." Rare framed lithograph done by Kellogg & Comstock, New York and Hartford Conn. Image of man facing right with comical wardrobe: pot on head, high boots, carrying every tool a miner would need (shovel, scale, pick, etc.). Sign behind him reads "To St. Louis,--350 Miles/To California, 1700 Ms." Ensign & Thayer, 12 Exchange St, Buffalo. Based on original lithograph done by artist Nathaniel Currier (1813-1888). Condition: appears to be water/condensation damage to most of the lithograph. Colors are still bright. Small fold lower right side. Even with damage, still looks very nice in its matte and frame. Lithograph measures 9" x 13" in a 16" x 20 1/2" frame. Burger Collection CA
