Ca. 1770-90 Salem Massachusetts Chippendale slant lid desk, attributed to John Chipman (1746-1819), with choice bold grained mahogany. A fall front lid/writing surface, opening to a double step fitted interior, document drawers with column and flame carving, over a case of four drawers with period brass hardware, and a unique scrolled cut applied bracket base with spur foot returns. 43”H x 41”W x 22”D.
Condition
Spliced hinged repair on left of lid, restoration/regluing to original base, other minor repairs throughout.
