Description
Ancient Northwestern or Central Europe, Saxon or Frankish/Germanic, ca. 6th to 8th century CE. A forged iron short broadsword called a scramasax. The blade is rather wide for most of its length before tapering gently towards the tip, and the tang is slender tang was meant to hold comfortable handles carved from stone, wood, or bone. Early examples of the scramasax were of primarily single-edged design - typically with a thick spine - however later examples began incorporating a double-edged design to better maximize the damage the weapon could inflict. Size: 23.25" L x 1.8" W (59.1 cm x 4.6 cm)

Repaired in multiple areas, with restoration along break lines. Expected oxidation as shown, with chipping and flaking along faces, peripheries, and tang, otherwise in nice condition. Great presentation. Please use caution when handling due to extreme fragility.
