An offset lithograph printer’s proof depicting the proposed record sleeve cover art for the unreleased Rolling Stones album, "The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus."

The album was to contain tracks from a circus-themed live concert, recorded in December of 1968, which featured performances by The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jethro Tull, Taj Mahal, and a one-time supergroup billed as, “The Incredible Dirty Mac,” which included John Lennon and his fiance Yoko Ono, along with Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and Jimi Hendrix drummer Mitch Mitchell. A film of the event as well as a corresponding album were scheduled to be released as a promotion for the latest Stones record, Beggars Banquet, but due to various circumstances, including the subsequent death of Brian Jones and the feeling that The Rolling Stones performed poorly, the project was shelved and not officially released until almost 30 years later. The two proof print offered here was designed by Alan Aldridge for a planned 1975 album release that never materialized.
