A large six-panel byôbu ??? (folding screen) covered with six separate hanging scroll paintings ???? (kakejiku) depicting different taka ? (hawks) perched on rocks and branches situated in different seasons. Their fearsome beauty and predatory features—sharp beaks, keen eyes, long curving talons— with an intense expression seen in the face of each bird, made them metaphors of martial training and the warrior spirit.The paintings mainly in black ink with some polychrome details set on a paper ground, mounted by paper panels with two silk borders, a golden brocade black thin one, and a broad navy blue one. Protected by a black lacquer frame with its original hardware. Total width: 367.6 cm (2 by 62.6 cm and 4 by 60.6 cm). Height: 167 cm.In a good restored condition with traces of age, wear and restorations, like superficial scratches paper -loss and discoloration.
