Description
Japanese Woodblock Print, 1969, 1st/only edition, from the series Pictures of Women

SIZE IN INCHES: 5 x 5.25 inches

COMMENTS: Finely printed, with detailed carving of the hair and a silver mica background.

KEIICHI TAKASAWA (1914-1984) was born in Gunma in 1914. He attended Nihon University in 1936 but did not complete his degree. In 1939, he received the Asahi award for one of his paintings. During the Pacific War, Takasawa worked as a war reporter. Post-1945, he sustained himself by working as an illustrator for women's magazines and engaging in various commercial projects. As an artist, his primary focus was on painting, particularly in the genre of bijin-ga, which depicts beautiful women — a traditional theme in Japanese visual art. In 1974 and 1975, he held two significant exhibitions in Paris.

Takasawa's bijin-ga paintings are renowned for their beauty, often portraying a consistent female figure who was his wife — slender, tall, and with a distinctive long neck.
