Description
A Pennsylvania Chippendale Walnut Blanket Chest, Lancaster County, Late 18th Century. The strap hinged rectangular top with applied molded edge, enclosing a blind dovetail-constructed box having a left covered till and small drawer, raised on ogee bracket feet. Tulip poplar secondary wood.
Dimensions: Height 22 3/4in; width 43 1/4in; depth 22 1/4in.
Provenance: Property from the Collection of C. Thomas Attix Jr., East Windsor, New Jersey.
Condition
Structurally sound. Retaining an old surface. Wear to the top. With key. Original feet and glue blocks. The back right ogee foot facing with a clean horizontal break and glued repair. The front right foot facing with a horizontal loss. There is a horizontal age crack to front board. Circular scarring around escutcheon. Typical marks, wear, nicks, abrasions and surface scratches throughout.
