Description
A Pennsylvania Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers, Third Quarter 18th Century. The rectangular molded top above two short drawers over three long drawers, flanked by fluted quarter columns, above a base molding, raised on substantial ogee bracket feet with exaggerated spurs. Tulip poplar secondary wood with full dust boards, the top two small drawers fitted with 'Quaker locks'.
Dimensions: Height 36in; width 40 1/2in; depth 24 1/4in; case width 37 3/4in.
Provenance: Property from the Collection of C. Thomas Attix Jr., East Windsor, New Jersey.
Condition
Structurally sound. Retaining an old dark surface. The two board top with minor age cracks and shrinkage. The front front right corner with a small break (retained). The second and third long drawer with warping to the front. One drawer lacking a lockplate. The brass hardware is likely original, no secondary holes to drawer fronts. Minor repairs and restorations to feet and glue blocks. Several spurs to feet repaired/replaced. General marks, wear, scuffs and surface scratches.
