Description

Inscribed on the back "The Studio of Daniel Garber Lumberville: PA. Austin Purves 1919 / To Pru From A.P. Xmas 1953" The works of Austin M. Perves Jr. are rarely offered for sale and this painting is descended from a close family of Purvis when they lived in Litchfield Connecticut. This painting was executed when Purvis was just 18, at the time being friends with Daniel Garber before he entered the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Purves painted Garbers studio in 1919 when this house was Garber's residence and was named "Cattalossa" Signed R/S upper corner "Austin M Purves 1919" and measures 11-1/2" x 15-1/2" x 1" deep. Oil on artist board. Dirt and grime from storage. This is one of three lots by Purves offered in this auction.
