Description
A related group of 1858 -1863 Pickens South Carolina Civil War era ephemera incl. an ambrotype photograph in a leather case, 9 letters, 1 land grant. Ambro of a man with hand colored cheeks & gilt shirt studs, unknown identity, possibly Reverend Thomas Looper or J or G W Singleton. Land grant from 1859 for 75 acres of land purchased by Thomas Looper. Letters cover Civil War related subjects - how troops were moving around SC and VA, various illnesses, references to Yankees, economics, and daily life. One states if the south was not "pushed into a fight before the 4th of July they (the north) acknowledge our independence." The family line for Thomas Looper connects to the Singleton family which relates to the majority of these documents. Documents of various page sizes approx. 12-1/2" x 8" or smaller. This item can be shipped in-house.
Condition
Wear typical for age, materials, and use including edges with some tears and losses, overall discoloration or staining, weakness at the folds. Ambrotype case hinge is not intact, some irregularities to pigment. See images for details on condition.
