A 19TH CENTURY JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD GOLD LACQUER SHIBAYAMA INLAID CIRCULAR CENSER decorated with subtle floral sprays and insects. 16 cm wide. Note: Shibayama Inlay (Shibayama Z?gan) is a lacquer art form distinguished by high relief carved inlays made from shell, coral, tortoiseshell, and other materials. Many gorgeous Shibayama crafts were exported during the Meiji period (1868?1912).
