London: for Henry Mortlock, 1698. 178, [6, ads] pp. 8vo, two bound in one, in early full sheep with initials "W C" in gilt to both boards, with ownership inscriptions of John Mackenzie 1733 and later stamp of James Baillie to title and final leaves. *************** Stillingfleet "engaged in a controversy with Locke on the doctrine of the Trinity, which he believed was impugned by some passages in the 'Essay on the Human Understanding.' He published three pamphlets on the subject (1696-7), each of which was answered by Locke" (DNB).
Condition
Hinges cracked but boards holding, scuffs and edgewear. Contents with occasional light foxing, two leaves somewhat toned (paper variation), occasional minor marginal stains, a few leaves near end with very light worming to margin (no loss of text.) Good+.
