Description
Three (3) Bank of the State of South Carolina ten dollar banknotes. Charleston, South Carolina, August 19 & 20, and November 1 1861. Serial numbers C 6898, C 6979, and D 3261. Each undersigned.
Early Civil War State of South Carolina ten dollar bank notes. All three are in excellent condition with little wear to the printed portions, no folds and no tears. Each note depicts General Daniel Morgan at left with General Andrew Pickens at right. The top center vignette is based on a painting by John Blake White, entitled “Sergeants Jasper and Newton Rescuing American Prisoners from the British.”
As members of the South Carolina militia during the Revolutionary War, the men’s bravery obviously warranted them a later depiction on the state currency.
