Derrom's Patent Combination Portable Cottages, Huts, &c. Paterson, New Jersey, 1861. 7 5/8 x 9 7/8 in. Printed handbill. Signed in type by A. Derrom.

A handbill advertising a system of buildings that could be constructed and disassembled quickly, noting that they were "particularly applicable for military cantonments, railroad or similar contractors..." The verso of the handbill features testimonials from several military officers including Generals Montgomery Meigs, Daniel Butterfield, and Fitz John Porter, who report that they were the only shelters to remain dry during the recent storm at Hall's Hill, Virginia.

An interesting piece of ephemera revealing innovative quartering for Civil War soldiers.
