Description
An ancient Egyptian Greywacke bowl, later 2nd Dynasty, circa 2750 - 2649 B.C.Elegantly shaped and precisely ground bowl with a flat base, a flat, conical upward wall and a slightly indented edge. A stripe with brownish inclusions runs across the shell. Assembled from sherds and expertly restored to perfection. Apart from minimal additions, all parts are preserved. Extremely attractive vessel from the early days of ancient Egypt with a smooth surface pleasant to touch. An almost identical parallel comes from the necropolis of Saqqara, grave 2322. Diameter 26.5 cm, height 6.8 cm.Provenance: Berlin private collection. Taken over from the parents' possessions, acquired by the father in the 1970s from a renowned collector of Egyptian art in Switzerland.Condition: II
