Description
A shashka M 1909 for officers of the Russian dragoons with solid gold crossThe fullered, nickel-plated, single-edged blade with two additional grooves on both sides, the rare Cyrillic manufacturer's mark "Zav. 1870 Kondratov – S. Vachi" stamped on the back of the ricasso. Brass knuckle-bow hilt with leaf decoration, cipher "N II" for Tsar Nicholas II. Brown synthetic, ribbed grip (scuffed, a few small cracks and defects), the pommel plate with a bulbous edge in 18 carat gold (tested), including a smooth cross, similar to the St. George's cross for valour. The scabbard covered in black leather (scuffed, small cracks) with a wooden core, brass fittings (minor indentations), one movable suspension ring. Marginally damaged in places, signs of age and wear. Length 97.5 cm. Condition: II
