BIOGRAPHY:
A painter of Orientalist and genre scenes, Clemente Pujol de Guastavino began his artistic studies at the Fine Arts School in Barcelona, then moved to Paris in 1876. He became a student of Louis Cabat and Jean-Leon Gerome and met the Orientalist painter Leon Bonnat, a friend of Gerome. The artist signed a contract with the famous art dealer Adolphe Goupil.Pujol de Guastavino painted genre scenes that he exhibited at the French Artists Salon from 1876 to 1905. He also made Orientalist paintings and participated in the Spanish section of the Universal Exhibitions of 1889 and 1900. In 1889, he obtained a medal of Honor for the painting "Moorish Dance".Like many orientalist painters of the time, Clemente Pujol de Guastavino was collecting objects and antiques from which he drew inspiration for the composition of his paintings. The texture of the fabrics, ornaments and metal objects was particularly neat and meticulous.In his Orientalist works, Pujol de Guastavino represented many hunters with falcon, guards with rifles, musicians or merchants in front of richly crafted walls and doors.
