Description
Magna Graecia & Greece, ca. 320 to 280 BCE. A pair of ancient Greek silver coins - an AR Stater and AR Drachma. The silver drachma in the name and type of Alexander VII. Obverse: head of Hercules facing right, wearing lion skin. Reverse: Zeus seated left with eagle. The stater is minted Metapontum in Lucania (Southern Italy). Obverse: Beautiful profile head of Goddess of agriculture, Demeter (Ceres). Reverse: barley stalk and inscribed "METAPO." Size of larger Stater coin: 0.79" Diameter (2 cm); weight: 7.3 grams; Drachma: 0.64" Diameter (1.6 cm); weight: 4 grams
