Description
State of Massachusetts Bay tax raising document. The house of representatives dated June 14, 1780, read and concurred by John Hancock, Speaker, later to become first signer of Declaration of Independence and nine time governor of the state of Massachusetts. On June 15, 1780, the same day as the state constitution was ratified thus allowing a tax to be levied to support the United States against the "common enemy." A rarely seen document. Mounted and framed with in a dark brown frame.
Condition
Frame is nicked showing some gilt underneath and writing can be seen on verso but unable to read from the front. Fold separations at the left side of the fold. Some ragged and toned edges and staining. Entire piece: h. 15'5", w. 10.5"
