Description
[Photography] Photograph album filled with silver print photo cards. Most depict a first person account and journey along the Yangtze river, noting locations such as Kiang Si (Jiang Xi), WuHu, Little Orphan Island, HanKou, Shanghai, Bubbling Well Cemetery, and more. Likely a diplomatic journey. Subjects include landscapes, landmarks, common people, archetypes, and government officials. Also included on the final page, 3 graphic images of the aftermath of the a massacre at Ichang (Yichang), likely during the Spirit Soldier Rebellion Period (noted under one card as the Massacre at Ichang). Most Images captioned in white pencil. Two photographs of Governor General Leonard Wood and China Consul Edwin Cunningham, dating the album around 1920-1927. 3 photograph captions refer to one subject as a "P.D. Laylin". 183 photographic cards in total. Oblong quarto. Bound in original black cloth backed boards. Condition: Binding almost separated. Some paper holders loose.
