Description
Fine antique Indian miniature painting depicting a Hindu Diety in a landscape with people, peacocks, monkeys, a boat on the water and architecture. Very detailed and finely painted. Written script on the top red border. 18th-19th century, possibly earlier.
Tempera on paper (laid down), beautifully highlighted with gold leaf and silver leaf (the water) or pigments.
Size - 9 7/8" x 11 7/8" (25 cm x 30.5 cm)
CONDITION : Excellent condition with only the lightest of surface wear. Tarnishing to the silver ;eaf in the water area at the bottom. Remains of archival tape to the reverse.
NOTES / REFERENCES : Rajasthan is one of the pioneer seats of miniature paintings in India. This art form evolved here in Marwar-Mewar region as textual illustrations to the Jain text Kalpa-Sutras around the early 15th century.
