Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ayutthaya Kingdom, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A slender but life-sized hand of Buddha cast in brass in the traditional Abhaya Mudra, the gesture of protection with fingers extended and held together as the hand points upwards. Buddhist hand symbols are often presented in specific styles to represent different aspects of Buddha and Buddhist values and this gesture is also called "Gesture of Fearlessness" or "blessing" or "fearless mudra." Size: 3" W x 9" H (7.6 cm x 22.9 cm); 11.5" H (29.2 cm) on included custom stand.
