Description
A very rare and desirable hand woven Ikat weaving known as a Hinggi mantle, worn as a ceremonial cloth and skirt I found in Rantenggaro village, Kodi, Western Sumba, Indonesia. I collected this piece personally from the family pictured below, the textile had been in their family for some time. Ikat textiles involve several labor intensive process, to create the tribal motifs such as the Mamuli and stylized bird. ** See photos of the village and family below** The textile measures 106 inches long X 45 inches wide. An original example with all natural dyes.
