Description
ENGLISH NEOCLASSICAL-STYLE WEIGHTED STERLING SILVER CANDELABRA PAIR, each having two-piece construction with three-lights and two scrolling reeded arms, each capital having an original bobeche insert, candlestick featuring a tapered-form stem with single knop, raised on a stepped rectangular base, all-over fluted and reeded decoration. Each impressed to side of base with "E&Co. / LTD" maker's mark for Ellis & Co. of Birmingham and three hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, an anchor city mark, and an "A" date mark for 1950, arm insert and bobeches each with maker's mark and two hallmarks of a lion passant and an "A" date mark. Total weight of bobeches: 9.520 ozt. Circa 1950. One 15 1/2" HOA.
Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections, care, preservation, and future acquisitions.
Condition
Very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, nicks, and a few minute/minor dents, slight bending to arms.Â
