Important colonial era middle America map centers on the Mississippi River. During the French and Indian war. c1744. By Jacques Nicolas Bellin. Published in Paris. From ‘Harrevelt’s Historie Generale des Voyages. Hand-colored copper plate engraved. Measures 12 x 8 1/2”. Shows from the Great Lakes to the northern half of Florida. From the unknown regions of western Texas and Colorado to the Carolinas. Centers on the Mississippi River, but many rivers are shown including the Rio Grande, Missouri River, Ohio River ( I’Oyo ou la Belle Rivuere’)m snd near Des Moines is the ‘Rivière de Moingona’. Many Native American tribes, European forts and settlements also mentioned. Spain’s ‘Nouveau Mexique’ shows the mission of St Jerome de Taos, near Santa Fe. Excellent condition.
