Description
Sheraton painted Satinwood two piece bookcase or display cabinet, highly decorated in the style of the 18th century artist, Angelica Kauffman. Top section consists of a parcel-gilt cornice over a single glazed door opening to a green painted interior and velvet lined shelves. Base consists of a flat top with pegs to secure the top section, above one single hidden drawer and delicately reeded and carved tapered gilt legs joined by curved stretchers. 74 1/4" H x 27" W x 16 1/4" D. English, late 19th/early 20th century. Note: Madame Kauffman married the Venetian painter, Antonio Zucchi, who did extensive work for the Adams brothers. Her painting style was used on their furniture and later on pieces by Thomas Sheraton.
