James Abbott McNeill Whistler(1834–1903) Rotherhithe Etching and drypoint colotype , printed in black ink on cream wove paper, 1860. Plate mark measures 7 3/4 inches wide by 10 7/8 long.The full margin sheet measures 10 3/4 inches wide by 12 3/4 long. A very good, richly-inked impression with delicate lines and strong contrasts. Kennedy 66; Glasgow 70. Please see all the images and read the Condition report below. Collotype is a gelatin-based photographic printing process invented by Alphonse Poitevin in 1855 to print images in a wide variety of tones without the need for halftone screens. The majority of collotypes were produced between the 1870s and 1920s. It was the first form of photolithography.
Condition
Comes as a loose sheet and without a frame. Areas of foxing ,brown moisture stains to the margin parameters. Hinge tape marks in verso , please see all images posted. Needs a frame & Would enhance with a professional cleaning , Site looks good for hanging If margins covered with a mat.
