Etching and aquatint on Montval laid paper, with the artist's inkstamp signature (as issued), numbered 167/850 (there were also editions of 30 on Japon ancien paper and 150 on Chine paper), published by the artist, Paris, printed by Roger LacouriĂšre, Paris, with full margins, framed.

In the 9 etched cartoon images, Picasso savagely criticizes the violence of the Spanish Civil war. Four of the images would be incorporated into the artist's 1937 Guernica painting, considered by many to be the greatest anti-war painting of all time.
