American Sampler: "Margaretta Yeardley Was Born the 6 of December in the Year 1752." Bucks County, Pennsylvania
c. 1760 18th Century American "Folk Art" Embroidery Sampler, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Identified as Hand-Stitched by Margaretta Yeardley (1752-1783), "The Praiers (sic) Of My Tongue - I Offer To The Lord - That i Was Taught And Learnt So Young - To Read His Holy Word", Framed, Very Fine.
This colorful American Sampler has red, green, tan, black, pink and blond hand-stitching with numerous designs and flourishes on tan linen. The pink date is partial reading "17(61)". A central portion of text reads: "The Praiers (sic) Of My Tongue - I Offer To The Lord - That i Was Taught And Learnt So Young - To Read His Holy Word". Along the bottom edge of this small 8" x 12.5" American Folk Art Sampler, it reads: "Margaretta Yeardley was born the 6 of December in the year 1752." Our research indicates that Margaretta was from Bucks County, Pennsylvania and she passed away at the age of 31 in 1783. She married a Mr. Stacy Potts and had 6 children. This Sampler is protected under glass and framed to an overall size of 15" x 11." Despite some missing stiches, this is a very nice display piece.
