Description
Continental, likely French, 19th century. Manner of Joseph Effner (German, 1687-1745), Foliate carved giltwood center table in the rococo taste, having a shaped black nero porto marble top, serpentine aprons with love trophies, and rising on cabriole legs with masks on knees and intertwined dragons, connected by a curved pierced stretcher with scallop shells. Unmarked. Provenance: Having a purported history of being owned by a Duchess of Talleyrand. Approx. h. 31.5", w. 77", d. 38".
Condition
Repaired cracks to marble with scattered chips to edges; chips and losses to gilding and carving; dragon heads have been replaced by flower heads; frame is structurally sound.
