Lot Essay
This fabulous minute repeating gold and enamel half hunting case pocket watch with the finest quality movement "AD.Fmsz" movement with diamond endstone on the balance is also a chronograph with 60-minute counter. The heavy 18k gold case has the repeat slide on the band and chronograph button in the band at 12 o’clock, the back cover is decorated with an exceptionally fine polychrome enamel noble family crest with the motto: "Festina Lente" ("Haste makes waste") around the border.
Charles Frodsham (1810-1871)
Charles Frodsham (1810-1871) was a maker of very fine watches, originally of the Strand, London, and then New Bond Street. His best quality watches bear the letters ‘AD.Fmsz’, which has been interpreted as 1850, the year he bought J.R. Arnold's estate after his death; the firm was known for a short period as Arnold and Frodsham.
